Technology Students Demonstrate Their Engineering Skills

The National Railway Museum in York was the venue for the Eleventh Rotary Technology Tournament and Tadcaster Grammar School students stole a bit of the glory.

Edward Matthews, George Hargreaves, Emily Ball and Emma Blades brought home third place in the Intermediate section (13 to 16 years) competing against 52 teams from 20 schools.

The competition, organised by York’s three Rotary Clubs, saw engineers of the
future work against the clock to demonstrate their inventive and engineering skills.
The foursome had to design a weight-powered vehicle, capable of powering itself up
a slope.

“Three groups of students from Years 7, 10 and 12 took part during the day. The
task this year was quite a difficult one and many of the groups struggled to find a
solution,” said Lee Clarke, Design & Technology Teacher (Key Stage 5 Coordinator).
“However, the Year 10 team made an excellent effort to achieve a third
place finish.”
